The club will be holding a club coach development day on Sunday 4th Dec 9.30am 'til 5.00pm at Alness swimming pool (behind Alness Academy).

The games hall is booked 9.00am – 2.00pm and 4.00pm – 5.00pm and the pool is booked 2.30pm – 4.00pm. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided, but please bring your own lunch.

Why do we need a club coach development day?

Well, there are more than 260 members in Inverness Canoe Club and more than 40 people who are registered to coach with the club, have coached with the club in the past or who currently coach with the club on a regular basis.

With the diversity of recreational disciplines practised in the club, and the amount of paddling that we all like to do, coaches rarely have the opportunity to get together. There is a wide range of qualifications and experience among club coaches. In bringing together as many (existing and potential) coaches as possible I would hope that:

  • We will get to know one another;
  • New coaches will be introduced to potential mentors;
  • New and potential coaches will be inspired to become more active within the club;
  • We will achieve consensus regarding the direction we wish the club to take and how we think we will get there;
  • We will reinforce consistency of coaching methods;
  • Each coach will have the opportunity to reflect on their personal paddling and coaching development needs;
  • We will produce plans for how we want to deliver coaching/paddling in each of the recreational disciplines that club members are active in;
  • We will have some fun!

The agenda will be delivered by experienced club coaches. Further details will follow via the mailing list. In the meantime, for more information or if you'd like to attend, please contact Margaret Pearson: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Newsflash

Following a series of mixed and discipline-specific club coaches' meeting in February 2011, the committee has put together a draft training and assessment schedule for the year ahead.

In order for these courses to run, we are relying on as many qualified coaches in the club as possible to come forward and volunteer; some to organise, some to assist. Whether you're a Level 1 or a seasonded L3 coach, your help will be vital if we are to succeed in providing a varied programme.

A list of the courses that we hope to run is included below. If you are interested in organising, running or assisting on one or more, please email the associated discipline organiser; Matt Speke (River & Surf), Margaret Pearson (Sea) and Malcolm Wield (Open).

If you have any general questions, please email Matt Speke, our Coaching Development Officer: coaching@invernesscc.org.uk

BCU 1 Star (Generic Introduction to Paddlesport)
This is the club's annual introductory course. Training, river/sea trips and assessment to be provided. We need L1/L2 coaches to run the session, with L3/Four Star Leaders to assist with river/sea trips at the weekends.
To volunteer for this course, email: springcourse@invernesscc.org.uk

BCU 2 Star (Generic)
We intend to run at least one, hopefully more, BCU 2 Star training/assessment courses throughout the year. We need principally L1 and L2 coaches, with assistance from L3 Coaches/Four Star Leaders for assessments and river trips.
To volunteer to organise, run or assist with this course, email: coaching@invernesscc.org.uk
