River Ness Marathon :: Marathon Abhainn Nis

E-mail Print

The annual River Ness Marathon (organised by members of Inverness Canoe Club) will be held on: Sunday 25th July 2010.

The race constitutes one of four marathon events held each year in northern Scotland as part of the SCA's Highland Marathon Series and each year, more and more people are drawn to the event; it's a fantastic day out for all the family!

Serious paddlers can undertake the challenging long-course, while those who like life a little more relaxed can paddle the shorter section from Dochgarroch down to the city centre...if you're in it to win it, or just enjoy a social paddle, then there's something to keep you occupied...

Loch Ness Marathon :: Marathon Loch Nis

E-mail Print

This year will see the inaugural SCA Loch Ness Paddle Marathon. Competitors will be required to paddle the length of Loch Ness, from Fort Augustus to Lochend (a distance of approximately 22 miles).

Depending on the interest from competitors, there may also be a short course race from Drumnadrochit to Lochend.

The race will be open to all types of craft, but given the distance and type of water, it will primarily be for sea kayaks.

The SCA have nominated the date of the race as Saturday, 24th July 2010 and the race is currently listed on their Marathon Racing Calendar.

June 2010 saw eight ICC members heading off to the sunny banks of the Soca in Slovenia to undertake a week's paddling in crystal clear waters.

The following video tells the tale:

The great big paddle...

Inverness Canoe Club member, and Great Glen Canoe Trail Project Officer, Donald Macpherson has featured in this summer's Scottish Natural Heritage magazine 'The Nature of Scotland'.

This is an interesting article (second only to ICC's newsletter of course) about the new paddling trail that Donald is setting up along the Great Glen; worth a read!

New Committee :: Comataidh Ùr

E-mail Print

Following the club's AGM on 9 April 2010, members present voted-in a new committee for the year ahead. A few familiar faces remain, but there are some new ones too.

Many thanks must go to all of the committee members who stepped-down this year after many years of service; the club couldn't have run without you...and congratulation to those re-elected or elected for the first time!

Particular thanks go to Malcolm Wield, outgoing President, who steered the club for the past two years with skill and dedication.

You can check out the new committee here: Club Committee

Other AGM business included an increase in family membership subscription fees to £30 (for a family of up to 5 members), as well as amendments to the club's constitution (the revised constitution can be viewed in the about us section).
