Welcome to Inverness Canoe Club / Fàilte gu Club Curach Inbhir Nis

Inverness Canoe Club was formed in 1996 and now has more than 300 members paddling at all levels - from beginners to the very experienced - and we are affiliated to the Scottish Canoe Association.

We are active in most areas of paddle sport – including sea, whitewater, open boating and surfing. We are a friendly inclusive club and welcome new members no matter what their level of experience.

The Highlands of Scotland offer some of the best whitewater and sea paddling in the world, so needless to say we run a very full programme of events all round the year:

Pool sessions are held most weeks during the winter months in Inverness Aquadome, and training courses are run in the spring. We ask that all members be able to paddle to a trained standard and have some experience of river trips before joining any of our outdoor trips.

There are river kayaking trips most weekends, especially in the winter months, with the Rivers Ness and Findhorn being the most popular local white water rivers.

Normally, the sea kayakers meet on Wednesday nights in the summer at Chanonry Point and we run weekend touring trips about once a month over the summer.

In addition, we have a growing number of members active in surf kayaking.

The club has more than a dozen qualified coaches covering all paddling disciplines. All of our coaches are all volunteers, but they're ready and willing to pass their skills on to others; especially at the pool sessions or on club training courses. Importantly, our club coaches are trained to the same professional level as coaches at outdoor activity centres and all have been through the thorough Disclosure Scotland screening process.

Another benefit for club membership is eqipment hire. We have a wide range of canoes and kayaks available for hire to members; although hire is subject to availability, with club trips and events taking priority.

Occasional slide shows, instructional videos and planning meetings are held as well as a chance to chat and get to know individuals and find out what future paddling is planned. Non-members are welcome to attend meetings with no obligation to join, however advertised club trips are unfortunately restricted to members due to health & safety issues as well as the Young Persons Safety Act 1996 regulations.

If you browse through the pages in this website, you’ll get a good idea of who we are and the kind of things we get up to...

If you like what you see, why not join the club?!
